# Lights and sounds

> Lights that flash for the doorbell, a smoke alarm, the bell, a call or a reminder.

With the [home agent](https://docs.readout.tv/home/home-agent.md) running, the app switches the lights and plugs at home, and
flashes them when something needs someone's attention, in every room, not only the TV's. It all
stays on your home network.

## Add your lights

Open **Menu → Lights**. Many lights show up by themselves; others need a step under **Add lights**.

| Lights | How they're added |
| - | - |
| Philips Hue | Through the Hue Bridge: tap **Connect**, then press the button on the bridge. |
| IKEA | Through a DIRIGERA hub: tap **Connect**, then press the button underneath it. |
| LIFX, WiZ, Shelly, TP-Link Kasa, Belkin Wemo, WLED, Elgato | They show up by themselves. |
| Govee, Yeelight | Turn on **LAN Control** for each in its own app, then they show up. |
| Nanoleaf | Tap **Connect**, then hold the controller's power button for 5 to 7 seconds. |
| Matter, any brand | Turn on pairing mode for it in the app it's in, and type the code under **Add lights**. |
| Home Assistant | Its address and an access token, under **Add lights**. Everything it has is listed. |

Each light has its switch, a brightness slider if it dims, **Flashes** (whether it flashes for
alerts) and **Flash it**, to see which one it is. Tap a name to rename it.

A new Kasa or Wemo plug, a Chromecast or a Google Home can be put on the Wi-Fi from the app, without
the maker's app.

## What they flash for

**Menu → Sounds and flashing** chooses what each light flashes for:

* someone tapping the **bell** in the app, or on a phone used as a microphone
* the **doorbell**, **knocking**, a **smoke or fire alarm**, a **phone**, a **baby** or a **dog**, heard by [Readout's screen](https://docs.readout.tv/home/raspberry-pi.md)
* a **video call** to the TV, or a **landline** call
* a **reminder** from the TV schedule
* an **email** to your account's own address, if you've set a rule for it

## Presence sensors

A presence sensor can say when someone comes into a room, and wake the camera on Readout's screen
for a video call. Sensors are under **Sensors** in **Menu → Lights**.
