# Radio

> Play radio stations on the TV or a speaker, with captions of what's said.

The remote's **Radio** tab plays stations on a TV with [Readout's screen](https://docs.readout.tv/home/raspberry-pi.md), a Google
Nest speaker or a Roku.

## Find a station

With nothing typed, it lists stations near you first, then the most played in your country. Type a
station's name, what it plays (such as news or jazz), a country or a language (such as Israel or
Spanish) to find others. Tap one to play it.

* Tap the **star** beside a station to make it a favorite. Favorites come first, on every phone in
  your account.
* Stations you played lately are listed under your favorites.
* The tab shows what's really happening on the TV: playing, the station not answering, or the TV
wanting OK pressed on its own remote first. **Stop** is beside it.

When a station says what it's playing, the TV shows the song and who sings it, or the show, under
its name.

## Captions of the radio

Turn on **Captions**, and what's said on the station shows on the TV under its name, in step with
the voice. A station in another language can be captioned in yours: choose **Captions in** and your
language, and the translation shows in place of the station's words.

## On a schedule

The [TV schedule](https://docs.readout.tv/home/schedule.md) can play a station at a time you choose, such as a morning station
at 8 on the kitchen speaker, with the same captions choice.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Stations come from Radio Browser, a free directory its listeners keep. Some big stations, such as
> BBC Radio, play only on Readout's screen, not on a Nest or a Roku.
