# Presence sensors

> Know when a room has seen nobody for hours, when someone's up, and light the way at night.

A presence sensor says whether someone is in a room. With the [home agent](https://docs.readout.tv/home/home-agent.md),
Readout uses one to keep an eye on the household, gently.

## Adding a sensor

Sensors are added the way [lights](https://docs.readout.tv/home/lights.md) are, under **Add lights** in **Menu → Lights**:

* **Matter presence sensors**, Meross's MS600 and MS605 among them, with their pairing code.
* **Home Assistant's** occupancy, presence and motion sensors, an Aqara FP2's zones among them.

They're listed under **Sensors**, each saying whether someone's there, or since when nobody has been.

## What a sensor can do

> [accordion] Tell the family when a room has seen nobody for hours
>
> Choose from 2 to 12 hours. Only the hours between 7 am and 10 pm count, so a night's sleep
> doesn't. The family is told once, through **Menu → Notifications → A room has seen nobody for
> hours**, until someone's there again.

> [accordion] Tell the family when someone's up
>
> The first time each day the sensor sees someone, within the morning hours you choose (5 to
> 9 am). It suits a room people pass through once they're up, like the kitchen.

> [accordion] A night light
>
> From 10 pm to 7 am, one of your lights or plugs comes on as someone comes in, at 10% where it
> dims, and goes off once the sensor has seen nobody for 2 minutes.

> [accordion] Wake a camera that turns
>
> With an OBSBOT Tiny 2 as the webcam on [Readout's screen](https://docs.readout.tv/home/raspberry-pi.md), a sensor can wake
> it to follow whoever comes in. Otherwise it sleeps, pointing down, whenever there's no
> [drop-in or call](https://docs.readout.tv/home/video-calls.md). **Camera stays asleep** keeps it that way.
