Put a phone, tablet or laptop near the people talking, and what they say shows as large captions, with each speaker’s name, on that device and on the TV in the room. Whoever reads the captions can type a reply, which shows in the conversation and can be read aloud. Readout runs in the web browser, at readout.tv, on any phone, tablet or computer. Nothing needs installing to start.

Captions on a TV

Show the captions big, on the TV everyone already looks at.

Phones as microphones

A phone near each person, so every word is heard and labelled.

Readout's screen

A Raspberry Pi at the TV: captions of the room, reminders, video calls and more.

What Readout does

Words show as they’re said, with speaker labels you can name. Captions follow people from one language to another, can translate, and keep going on the device itself if the internet drops. More about captions.
Pair a TV once and it shows the captions by itself whenever you caption. With the home agent, the app switches the TV to them, and is a remote for it. Show captions on a TV.
The bell in the app flashes the TV. Lights flash for the doorbell, a smoke alarm, a call or a reminder, and Readout’s screen can hear the doorbell itself. Lights and sounds.
A schedule of reminders, family messages, shows, slideshows and radio on the household’s TVs, with OK on the TV’s remote to confirm. The TV schedule.
Video calls to the TV, with what each caller says captioned under their name, and captions of calls on your landline. Video calls and drop-ins.
Readout is invite-only for now. If you don’t have an account yet, someone already in one can invite you to theirs, or write to hello@readout.tv.
