Menu → Display sets how captions look, with a preview at the top. The TV follows the same settings, with its own text size.

Theme

Theme chooses dark, light, or Automatic, which follows the device’s light or dark mode. Dark is the default. Background, text, accent and caption background colors can each be set too.

Caption text

Font, size, weight (regular or bold), line spacing, letter spacing, alignment (left or centered), text color and a text edge, for reading over a busy background. The TV’s text size has buttons of its own, Bigger text on TVs and Smaller text on TVs.

Captions

Full screen

In a browser on a computer or tablet, the Full screen button at the top, beside Display, puts Readout over the whole screen, with none of the browser’s tabs or address bar. Press it again, or Esc, to bring them back. On a phone it’s in the Menu, under Captions. iPhones can’t show a web page full screen, so it isn’t offered there. The Readout app already fills the screen.
