With the home agent running, the remote button at the top of the app opens a remote for the TVs it found. Pick the TV at the top; the remote remembers it. It has power, volume, mute, channel, the arrows and OK, Back, Home, Menu, Input, and play, pause, rewind and fast forward, with Show captions at the top. Volume, channel and the arrows repeat while held, and on a computer the arrow keys work too. Each TV shows only the buttons it has.

TVs and devices it works with

LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio, Philips, Panasonic and Hisense TVs; Google TV and Android TV; Roku; Fire TV; Apple TV; and Chromecast. A Google Nest or Home speaker, or a speaker group, is listed too, for its volume, play and pause, and to play a link to a song. A TV with no network can be reached through a Broadlink or SwitchBot blaster, and any TV through Readout’s screen. See the supported devices for models that have been tried.
Some TVs show a PIN or code the first time you press a button in the app. Type it in the app, once, and the remote is paired.

Apps and inputs

Apps and inputs opens a TV’s apps, such as YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video, and its inputs. On an LG or a Roku the remote types into their search boxes too.

What’s on

The remote shows what’s playing where the TV says: the app, the show, what’s cast to it, or the channel. With Prime Video cast to a Chromecast, for instance, it shows the episode and the show.

A TV guide

With a cable box, the Channels tab has a TV guide: what’s on each channel, with its logo. Tap a show to switch the TV to the cable box and tune to it.

An LG’s picture and sound

On an LG, Picture turns the screen off while the sound plays on, to listen to the radio, say. Any button on the TV’s own remote turns it back on. Sound out chooses the TV’s own speakers or a soundbar.

The radio

The Radio tab plays radio stations on the TV, a Google Nest speaker or a Roku, with captions if you like. See Radio.
