Captions aren't saved
Unless you turn on saving, nothing is kept once you start a new conversation. Saved
conversations stay on your device, not in your account.
Audio isn't recorded
Except a meeting you record for a transcript, which Readout doesn’t keep once it’s sent.
Voices aren't kept
Telling returning speakers apart uses their voice only for that conversation, and never saves it.
Sounds stay home
What Readout’s screen listens to for the doorbell and alarms never leaves the Pi.
Who hears what
- The speech service. With cloud captions, the audio goes to the speech service to be transcribed as it’s said. If the internet drops, captions are made on the device and nothing is sent.
- Anthropic’s Claude, only for what you turn on: Correct with Claude gets the text of the lines it checks, a recap the text being summed up, and the TV schedule’s description box what you type in it.
- Meeting transcripts go to the service that writes them. The app says which, and whether it keeps a copy, before you send one.
- Lights and TVs are switched on your home network by the home agent, with no cloud between.
